Satisfaction Surveys

> In the 2017 JD Power Residential Electric Customer Satisfaction Rankings, Santee Cooper finished first in South Carolina and 24th overall in the nation. 

> Santee Cooper’s residential customers posted a 97.3 percent overall satisfaction rate in 2016 and indicated increased satisfaction with Santee Cooper’s rates, leadership in conservation, energy efficiency and renewable energy programs, community involvement and concern for the environment. 

> Our results are consistently higher than national average of 89.9 percent overall satisfaction.

In our own independent surveys, Santee Cooper enjoys strong customer satisfaction marks, averaging 95 percent or better among all customer groups.

> Transmission Reliability: 99.9976 percent (equals 13 minutes without power/year average for delivery points)

> Transmission Lines: 5,039 miles

> From 2014-2016, Santee Cooper's large-voltage transmission system had the fewest outages per 100 miles compared to neighboring utilities in the Southeast.

> Distribution Reliability: 99.9965 percent (equals 23 minutes without power/year average for customers)

> Distribution Lines: 2,806 miles

> Santee Cooper’s distribution system reliability ranks in the top 5% in national benchmarking surveys.

Franchise Agreements

> City of Myrtle Beach heralds a “first of its kind Underground Facilities Franchise Fund” in 1999, in which Santee Cooper matches a portion of the city’s yearly franchise fee and the combined money is used for construction and installation of underground utilities.

> Now involves 8 municipalities.

> Matching funds help convert overhead to underground lines.

24/7 Storm Center

> Santee Cooper provides an around-the-clock Storm Center to customers, accessible by phone or online. This application lets customers report outages and monitor restoration. 

> Santee Cooper also provides steps and tips to follow if a customer experiences a power outage. Once the outage is reported, employees respond as soon as possible and work to restore power to the home or business. In 2016 transmission delivery points averaged only 13 minutes without service and distribution customers averaged only 23 minutes without service.

Energy Efficiency Programs

We announced new programs in 2009 to help customers use less of our primary product: electricity. Through Reduce The Use, we offer rebates and other incentives to help customers make energy efficiency improvements, save energy and save money. It’s working: we’re already helping customers save more than 180 million kilowatt-hours a year, with programs like:

Smart Energy Loans: We have provided over $50 million in low-interest loans that help customers make their homes more energy-efficient and also help install renewable generation, including solar panels

Giveaway programs for energy-efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs and LED bulbs

Free online and in-home energy check-ups to help customers find ways to be more energy efficient and save money on their power bills

Rebates to help customers install efficient HVAC systems, lighting, refrigeration systems and other energy-efficient products at home and work
