Busy, Busy In A Tizzy

Holidays are not my forte.

While I love the lights, the music and the merry demeanor of this time of year, I am just not into the hustle and bustle that comes with the holiday season.

After watching one of my all-time favorite movies, " Babes in Toyland ," I realized that my mantra for December comes from the " Workshop Song ":

"Busy, busy in a tizzy…Hurry, hurry, hurry 'til we're done."

To me, running around from store to store in the finest winter attire with two hungry kids trying to find the perfect gift while overheating from the unusually warm winter weather is just no fun at all.

I'm more of a "sit on the couch in my comfy bedroom slippers sipping a nice, hot cup of coffee while everyone is asleep" kind of shopper. I like to pay my bills the same way.

Light Up the Night

The streets in your neighborhood may be filled this Saturday night with trick-or-treaters wearing scary, funny and creative costumes. Halloween is actually one of my favorite holidays. I am not sure why; perhaps I still love to play dress up. It seems like many neighborhoods see fewer and fewer costumed kids participating in the trick or treat ritual, but my neighborhood still sees cars full of them and their parents lined up for miles.

I think one reason my neighborhood is such a Halloween favorite is because parents feel it's a safe place to bring their kids. The biggest factor, I believe, is lighting. Not only do we have Santee Cooper rental lights on our street, but homeowners also have additional outdoor lighting on their property.

Online anytime

Our customer service representatives are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

I am not a doctor, but I am fairly confident that I suffer from insomnia.

While everyone else in my household is drifting off to sleep, I am lying in the dark wondering if I should get up and start the laundry or just lie really still and enjoy the quiet.

Usually the glorious sound of a quiet house wins, and I stay put for a while; however, there comes a point in time when the peacefulness just isn't peaceful anymore.

When the laundry is all done, the kids are still asleep and I'm still raring to go, I jump online and start striking off things on my "to-do" list for the upcoming day.

Fortunately, most places I do business with have a website I can access 24/7. At no other time in my life has paying bills, requesting service changes, or just inquiring on my account been easier.

I have always heard that opinions are like belly buttons in that everybody's got one. Lately it seems that I've been seeing a lot of signs, funny pictures on social media, and even inspirational posters that remind us that other people's opinions about us should not matter. One saying I've heard is, "Another person's opinion of you is their problem, not yours."

We feel a little differently about other people's opinions at Santee Cooper, especially those of our customers.

Happy Anniversary to Me

On the fifth day of February 2001, I walked into a Santee Cooper retail office for the first time as an employee. As excited as I was to begin a new journey, I was scared to death of the challenges that I might face. Learning a new computer system, finding my way around, and educating myself on all of the volumes of policies and procedures were just some of things I feared most.

Over the years my position has changed, and it is only rarely that I find myself back where I started. Truth be told, the thing I miss the most is the people, the customers … YOU! I miss building relationships, hearing how your families are doing and just sharing a simple "hello." I just miss serving our customers face to face.

While times are changing and more and more of our customers want to do business with us over the phone or online, Santee Cooper still provides walk-in locations for those of you who still like to see a friendly face.
