Johns Island Residents Invited to Open House for New Transmission Line

The Open House is June 5.

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – Santee Cooper is inviting residents of Johns Island to an Open House to learn more about the construction of a transmission power line on Johns Island. The Open House will take place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5, at Berkeley Electric Cooperative (3351 Maybank Hwy.).

The new transmission line will ensure the electricity Santee Cooper provides to Berkeley Electric Cooperative, that then provides it to Johns Island residents, is reliable. At the Open House, residents can view the selected route, see how the route will look, and talk with Santee Cooper and Berkeley Electric Cooperative representatives.

The transmission line will begin at the existing Johns Island Substation near Brownswood Farm subdivision and will end at the existing transmission lines that cross the Stono River near Bullock Guard Drive. Santee Cooper plans to obtain permission from affected landowners, conduct environmental and land surveys, and perform appraisals to make fair market offers for necessary property purchases. Construction is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2020.
