Even when you’re working here, it somehow feels like one long weekend.

There’s a relaxed feeling here in South Carolina. It’s a feeling that makes working here just as enjoyable as living here, and it’s part of our culture and who we are.

For those who live here, they’ve perfected unwinding in a heritage of hospitality, where the great outdoors meets everything from world-class ballet and golf, to oceans of fine food and fashion.

Explore the regions below to get in on the fun.

Santee Cooper's service area, which includes Horry County, Georgetown and Berkeley counties, just happens to be one of the most sought after regions of the state.

This combined 60-mile stretch of white sandy beaches encompasses the internationally recognized Myrtle Beach area, and the quieter beaches of the tidewater environment down to historic Georgetown County.

  • It’s a playground that is visited by more than 14 million vacationers each year
  • The Grand Strand alone offers 120 golf courses
  • Golf Digest magazine names Myrtle Beach as the top golf vacation destination in the nation

In addition to golfers, the area's five rivers, tidal saltwater estuaries, beaches and oceans attract sportsmen and boaters, as well as families who have vacationed here for generations.

Heading inland along the Santee River, you'll discover the simple beauty and charm of the Lowcountry in Berkeley County. The area offers an abundance of recreation and water sports. Encompassing 156,000 acres of prime wildlife habitat in South Carolina's Lowcountry, Santee Cooper's lakes Marion and Moultrie are world famous for their land-locked, trophy-sized, striped bass as well as for trophy catfish, largemouth bass and crappie.

As for cultural events, museums and fine dinning, historic Charleston, South Carolina, is only minutes away. With all of the residential developments and retail centers springing up in Berkeley County, this part of the Santee Cooper service area is fast becoming a favorite of families moving to the Lowcountry.

The state's larger metropolitan areas like Columbia, Greenville, and Charleston (to name a few) support:

  • A ballet company
  • A symphony orchestra
  • One or two Zoos
  • Galleries and museums
  • Fine Dining
  • Camping, fishing and hiking as much as there is golf

A Noteworthy Festival

  • The Spoleto Festival USA in Charleston
    • Hailed by the Atlanta Journal as one of the best performing arts festivals in the country and, perhaps, the world.
