Santee Cooper Debuts Payment Plan for Community Solar
MONCKS CORNER, S.C. –With the debut of its new payment plan, Santee Cooper is making it even easier for customers to “go solar.”
Santee Cooper launched South Carolina’s first community solar program in 2016. Santee Cooper Solar Share is ideal for customers who don’t want to, or can’t, put solar panels on their roofs. Now, Santee Cooper’s new Solar Share Payment Program allows customers to spread out the upfront cost of a Solar Share subscription over 18 to 30 months, depending on the number of kilowatts purchased. That means customers can get the benefits of solar energy immediately for as little as $16 per month.
“Santee Cooper Solar Share gives our customers a way to enjoy the benefits of solar power right away, with no permit requirements, no panel installation, and no equipment maintenance or repair,” said Mike Poston, vice president of retail operations. “The power they subscribe to comes from the Colleton Solar Farm near Walterboro. While that’s not in everyone’s backyards, it is part of Santee Cooper’s community and all of our customers can take advantage of it.”
Solar Share subscriptions start as low as $450 per kilowatt after a Santee Cooper rebate, and are spread over 18 to 30 months. Once that subscription is paid off, customers will continue to receive monthly energy credits on their bills through Dec. 20, 2033.
“We are offering this payment plan so customers can take advantage of renewable energy programs that meet their financial needs and expectations,” said Poston. “Customers who subscribe to the solar output through Solar Share will be harvesting the sun’s energy and saving on their energy bills for years to come.”
