UPDATE: Santee Cooper Has Low-Cost Electricity – Period.
Facts ARE Facts

Santee Cooper provides low-cost electricity. That’s a FACT. Some of our detractors would have you believe otherwise, and they continue to falsely warn about skyrocketing costs, but those claims are all wrong.
Santee Cooper is constantly looking for ways to cut costs for our customers. But even without any changes, Santee Cooper customers have low prices now and will continue to have low prices going forward. In FACT, our 2019 Business Forecast provides at least FIVE more years of stable prices.
South Carolina has four large utilities, including Santee Cooper, that generate, transmit and distribute electricity in the state. Here’s another FACT: the average bill for our typical residential customer (using 1,000-kilowatt hours per month) is the lowest among the four. Yes, you read that right – Santee Cooper is the lowest. Consider this comparison, which includes shareholder-owned utility costs as reported by the S.C. Office of Regulatory Staff:
-
- Santee Cooper---------------------------------- $113.33
- Duke Energy Carolinas ----------------------- $120.87
- Duke Energy Progress ------------------------ $126.29
- Dominion/SCEG ------------------------------ $124.57
We pledged in 2017 to maintain prices until at least 2020, and our Business Forecast does much better than that. Our electric rates are already lower than the state and national averages, and we are working hard to make sure that continues.
And that’s a FACT you can bank on.
