At Santee Cooper, service means more than delivering power and water — it means investing in the places and experiences that matter to our customers and local communities. Our involvement in Berkeley County’s Mega Boat Landing is a powerful example of that commitment in action.
Located on the former Atkins Boat Landing/Lions Beach site, the 14-acre project expands public access to Lake Moultrie.
Santee Cooper is partnering with Berkeley County to renovate and expand the site, which include the following improvements:
-
Six new boat launch ramps and a dock protected by a new breakwater
-
Event pavilion
-
Walking trail
-
Approximately 180 boat trailer parking spaces
-
Approximately 180 passenger vehicle spaces
Additionally, there will be a Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office outpost dock for deputies to respond to lake emergencies.
Santee Cooper designed and permitted the project’s marine elements, including the docks and breakwater. Berkeley County Engineering permitted the design plans in cooperation with the Town of Moncks Corner and S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control. Berkeley County Roads and Bridges performed work on the land/parking lot.
In November 2025, Berkeley County Supervisor Johnny Cribb noted, “This project represents a significant investment in our community’s quality of life. Residents have expressed the need for improved access to our beautiful waterways, and reviving this former landing and beach into a waterfront park delivers on that promise. We look forward to this site bringing people together and providing a lasting benefit for generations to come.”
Santee Cooper has also provided a long-term gratis lease to Berkeley County for the project.
