Canadys Station

Generating Electricity for Generations to Come

As South Carolina’s state-owned power and water utility, Santee Cooper takes seriously our responsibility to power people and industries across the state. That’s especially important today, with a fast-growing population and booming industrial sector.

Santee Cooper and Dominion Energy have a plan to boost grid reliability and flexibility, help power the state’s growing electric needs, provide economic development support across the state’s southern region, and provide new jobs: Canadys Station, a natural gas combined cycle station we will build together in Colleton County. Canadys Station is about more than just powering homes and businesses – it will help strengthen the economy, invest in our communities, and provide a big, cost-effective step forward in South Carolina’s energy transition.

Key Facts

  • Canadys Station will provide approximately 2,000 megawatts (MW) of energy – enough to power as many as half a million homes. The station will consist of three combined-cycle turbines with flexible fuel capability. Once complete, it will be one of the most efficient generating plants in the southeastern United States.

  • By partnering together on this project, Santee Cooper and Dominion Energy can take advantage of existing infrastructure and economies of scale that will produce savings for our customers. Santee Cooper and Dominion Energy are both experienced operators of natural gas generating plants across South Carolina.

  • Canadys Station will be located on the site of Dominion Energy’s former coal-fired facility in Colleton County, essentially replacing a retired coal plant with a reliable, lower-emitting energy plant on an existing brownfield site. The site is near existing and planned Santee Cooper electric transmission lines.

  • Santee Cooper is committed to engaging with stakeholders and fully participating in a rigorous regulatory process conducted by independent oversight agencies.

  • After a thorough, transparent and fair process, Kinder Morgan was determined to be the best supplier of natural gas for Canadys Station. Visit kindermorgan.com for more information.

Key Benefits
