Bluffton-Market Place 115kV Line #2: Phase 2 Buckingham-Hilton Head

Santee Cooper is constructing a new line 115 kV line from the Bluffton area to Hilton Head Island in Beaufort County. This new line section will be extending an existing 115 kV line from the Buckingham area in Bluffton to the Hilton Head plantation area. This project will provide additional transmission capacity to support the load growth, and it will also provide increased electric reliability to residents and businesses on the Hilton Head Island. The new transmission line will be constructed to the most up-to-date standards and codes that will provide more resiliency to adverse weather conditions.

Santee Cooper plans to design and construct this transmission line over a 3-year period, starting in August 2025 and be in service by June 1, 2028. Design and permitting are underway and should concluded in 2026, with construction beginning in 2027. There are currently no planned service disruptions. Santee Cooper intends to send letters to homeowners along the route before project construction starts.

No new right-of way is proposed currently.

2025-2026: Studies, Planning, and Engineering

2026: Receiving materials and final permitting

2027-2028: Construction Window. The project should be complete and in service by June 1, 2028.

There may be some minor disruptions, at times, as the project crosses various roads. We will do everything we can to limited road closures, if needed. We will know more as the design and construction process unfolds.
