Yemassee to the Varnville Area 230kV Project

Overview

Santee Cooper is constructing a new line 230 kV line from the Varnville area to the Yemassee area in the southern part of South Carolina. This project will provide additional transmission capacity to support the load growth, and it will also provide increased electric reliability to residents and businesses throughout South Carolina. The new transmission line will be constructed to the most up-to-date standards and codes that will provide more resiliency to adverse weather conditions.

Project Description

Santee Cooper plans to design and construct this transmission line over a 5-year period, starting in August 2025 and be in service by December 1, 2030. Design and permitting are underway and should concluded in 2026, with construction beginning as soon as 2027 or 2028. There are currently no planned service disruptions. Santee Cooper intends to send letters to homeowners along the route before project construction starts.

Right of Way/Land Acquisition

No new right-of-way should be needed for this line at this time. Studies and design are underway to determine what will be needed.
