Santee Cooper Experiences Record Customer Growth in 2023
MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – More customers joined Santee Cooper in 2023 than any other year on record. Santee Cooper added 7,831 customers in its retail territory, bringing the total number of residential and business customers to 212,597. That is nearly a 4% increase over 2022’s strong growth.
“Setting up service for nearly 8,000 new customers takes time, effort and dedication. Our team does a fantastic job, as shown by the recent strong marks on our residential and commercial customer satisfaction surveys, and we welcome our new customers to the Santee Cooper family,” said Jimmy Staton, Santee Cooper President and CEO. “Growth does bring challenges, and we are working to enhance our infrastructure and develop new generation to best serve our growing customer base and provide the reliability they have come to expect.”
Most of the growth was along the Grand Strand. The largest jump was in May with 1,090 customers joining the electric system.
U.S. News and World Report recently ranked Myrtle Beach as the fastest-growing area in the U.S. for 2023-2024, so brisk growth is likely to continue as the new year continues.
