Biggins Boat Landing Closes for Expansion Project

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – Santee Cooper will temporarily close the William H. Dennis “Biggins” Boat Landing beginning Feb. 15 to start a major expansion and modernization project that will significantly improve public water access and support the growing recreation needs of Berkeley County. The landing will reopen in spring 2027.

The project will expand boating capacity, increase parking, improve traffic flow and enhance visitor safety. Key elements include:

  • Reconstruct and expand the existing parking lot to add parking, two make-ready lanes and one disembarkation lane.
  • Expand the existing two-lane boat ramp to a four-lane boat ramp.
  • Construct two new staging docks totaling over 470 linear feet of docking space.
  • Construct two new ADA compliant fishing piers, one at each end of the parking lot.

“This boat landing is a vital public access point to the Tailrace Canal and Santee Cooper lakes, and this project will ensure it continues to serve our growing community safely, efficiently and for many years to come,” said Dan Camp, Sr. Director of Real Estate and Camp Hall. “We appreciate the public’s patience as we make these much-needed improvements.”

To complete the work safely, Santee Cooper must close the entire site to the public for the duration of construction. Heavy equipment, in-water work and excavation activities cannot occur while the facility remains open.

During the closure, boaters will be encouraged to use alternative public landings, including Cypress Gardens, Wadboo and Ralph Hamer Sr. boat landings. Santee Cooper will provide information to help boaters identify alternative launch sites during the closure and will share updates through its website and social media channels.
