Start Service

Welcome! Follow the steps below to get started setting up your new Santee Cooper service or adding another service location. Your start service date will usually be the next business day during regular business hours (excluding holidays and weekends).

Get Started

  1. Is your location in our service territory?

We serve portions of Berkeley, Georgetown and Horry counties. You can check the meter to see if Santee Cooper is your provider or contact us at 800-804-7424 or customercare@santeecooper.com.

  2. You will need the following items to apply for service:

    • Social Security number, Passport number, FID or TIN
    • Driver’s license
    • Copy of lease agreement or proof of purchase (if applicable)
    • Mobile homeowners in Horry County will be required to provide a copy of the Certified License Application from the Horry County Assessor’s Office when applying for service.

  3. You may need a deposit to start service with us.

    • We conduct a credit check to establish the deposit required to start service with us. If you’ve been a Santee Cooper customer with in the last 12 months, we can look at your account history to establish a deposit requirement. Deposits must be paid in full prior to connection of service.

    • If you prefer not paying a deposit, Pay As You Go Electric may be the right choice for you.

  4. What service works best for you.

    We currently offer two options.

    Traditional Service
    • Customers are billed monthly for energy they use. Billing statements are mailed and payment is due 15 days after the bill is rendered.
    • We perform a credit check and a security deposit may be required. Security deposits must be paid in full prior to connection of service.
    • Traditional service is usually established within 24 hours.
    • Once service is established, you can enroll in My Energy Link (MEL) for paperless billing and to do business with us online.

Pay As You Go Electric (PAYGE)
      • PAYGE allows you to prepay for electricity by adding funds to your PAYGE account.
      • Customer adds funds to account (advance payment) and account is charged daily.
      • Daily charges for your electric use are deducted from your account balance.
      • A deposit is not required. To get started, you pay an upfront fee of $70, which includes a $20 set up fee and a $50 minimum account balance.
      • You can add funds to your account through automatic fund refill, paying cash at a Santee Cooper retail office, or by credit card.

  5. Getting connected.

We do our best to get your electric service up and running quickly, typically within 1 to 2 business days during normal business operations. Two weeks after service starts, customers who provide email addresses will receive a welcome email from Santee Cooper with information on programs, billing, payment options and more.
